Carry Laws

West Virginia supports the carrying of firearms outside of the home under a variety of legal authorities. Specifically, the State issues Concealed Handgun Licenses (CHL) for those who qualify for the license; it has recognized the right of permitless or constitutional carry since 2016 for those who choose not to obtain a CHL; and open carry has been allowed in West Virginia for decades.

However, no matter what method you choose to take advantage of, it is critical that you know the law and how it applies to you in whatever situation you may be in to avoid facing legal troubles because you did it wrong. Ignorance of the law will not keep you out of trouble. Carrying a firearm for defensive use demands responsibility on the part of the carrier. Having the best legal support possible is key to ensuring you know how to lawfully exercise your rights in the first place, but also to giving yourself the greatest chance to avoid legal trouble if you do it wrong in the first place.
